Borneo Eco Tours was formed in 1991 with special emphasis on ecotourism. As part of our management philosophy we subscribe to the environmental codes of responsible tourism under Green Globe 21 program of World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and PATA's Green Leaf program. We have also adopted our own "Green Policies" and Code of Practice and have also formed an inhouse "Green Team" to carry out our policies.

FUNDING

Since we commenced operations in Sukau in 1999 as SERDC we have been able to achieve a great deal both for the local community and for the environment. Over a period of twelve years (1996-2007), a total of over RM 272,539.12 has been donated to SERDC with 61% of the funds generated internally (RM 85,061.25 or 31% from Sukau Rainforest Lodge and RM 82,010.48 or 30% from Borneo Eco Tours) to implement community and environmental projects.

Funding for SERDC and now BEST projects was and is primarily through an allocation of US$1 per every international guest that stays at our Sukau Rainforest Lodge. From 1 January 2007, this amount was increased to RM4.00. From 1 January 2007 with the formation of BEST, Borneo Eco Tours increased the allocation to BEST by RM8.00 per international tourists visitor to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. From time to time we also receive donations for our projects from guests to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. As of 31st December 2007, the BEST' income and expenditure is as follows:
