Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre Visits Sabah Tourism Board and Universiti Malaysia Sabah<\/strong><\/h3>\n

David Kerr, General Manager and Jan Tierney, Aquarist of\u00a0Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre, Western Australia<\/a>\u00a0together with Mark Exeter, South West Development Commission visits\u00a0Sabah Tourism Board<\/a>\u00a0to present talk on \u201cDeveloping Icon Tourism Attractions and Partnerships\u201d and future tourism partnership between Western Australia and Sabah.<\/p>\n

Representatives of Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre, together with our MD Albert Teo and\u00a0Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre\u00a0<\/a>CEO Dr. Wong Siew Te also visited the Aquarium and Marine Museum of\u00a0Universiti Malaysia Sabah<\/a>\u00a0to learn more about the university\u2019s efforts in marine studies and conservation.<\/p>\n

Signing of MOU for Collaboration and Promotion of Sustainable Tourism and Voluntourism<\/strong><\/h3>\n

2 August 2017- Our NGO division,\u00a0BEST Society<\/a>\u00a0just signed an MOU to collaborate and promote sustainable tourism and voluntourism with Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre BSBCC and Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre, Australia. (BEST Society was set up ten years ago in 2007 by Borneo Eco Tours as a community development arm to implement various community and environment projects in Sabah and to alleviate poverty through capacity building and social entrepreneurship). The signing of our International Wildlife Agreement between Albert Teo, President and MD of BEST Society and Borneo Eco Tours, Dr Wong Siew Te from Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and David Kerr from Dolphin Discovery Centre happened in Sandakan, Sabah, Borneo.<\/p>\n

We were happy to have our friends David Kerr and Jan Tierney of Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre visit us at Sukau Rainforest Lodge recently. We also hosted Mark Exeter, South West Development Commission. We hope you enjoyed your time at the lodge!<\/p>\n

\nSigning of Sale and Purchase of Land for Borneo Land Conservancy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

BEST society have signed an agreement to purchase 7.7 acres piece of forested land in Sukau for conservation and providing additional habitat for wildlife as part of our commitment and contribution towards United Nations 2030 Agenda of\u00a0Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)<\/a>. The land, which will be known as Borneo Land Conservancy will be funded through raising funds of various means besides direct contribution from Borneo Eco Tours and Sukau Rainforest Lodge. The signing of the sale and purchase of the land was attended by our MD Albert Teo and Assistant GM Fernando Rulloda (Sandakan branch), Datuk Thomas Lau, the landowner, and lawyer Mr. Poon at his office in Sandakan.<\/p>\n

Presenting of Conservation Fellow Plaque to Datuk Sam Mannan<\/strong><\/h3>\n

We are honoured to confer Datuk Sam Mannan, Conservator of Forest in Sabah as our latest Conservation Fellow in Sukau Rainforest Lodge for his contribution to conservation. Our MD Albert Teo and Assist. GM of Borneo Eco Tours, Sandakan branch Fernando Rulloda recently visited him at his office to present a plaque to Datuk Sam Mannan on his appointment as the latest Conservation Fellow member. One of the new villas will be named after him. And he joins the other twenty three Fellows on our Wall of Honor. A copy of Authentic Ecolodge written and published by another Conservation Fellow, Hitesh Mehta was also presented to Datuk Mannan.<\/p>\n

Datuk Sam hit the headline recently in London when he made the announcement on behalf of the state government that it will cancel the proposed second bridge across Kinabatangan River which will effectively cut across the Sanctuary and affect the migration route of the Borneo pygmy elephants which are a big draw to eco-tourists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
