Due to his illness, he did not make the boat journey from Singapore Changi to Sandakan but was sent to then Burma after he recovered to build the railway there. All his 130 comrades from West Australia died in the infamous &#8220;Death March&#8221; in Borneo though none was from Boyup Brook.
