We are pleased to inform that on 9th November 2019 – 24th December 2019 and 10th January 2020 – 29th February 2020, Sukau Rainforest Lodge will be embarking on a refurbishment programme for our Superior Rooms! We're very excited about this facelift, and plan to re-open the rooms with a fresh new look in early 2020. During this time, our guests can still book and stay at our Borneo Villas, and enjoy all the facilities and services available at the lodge.View our Borneo Villa
Our River Wildlife Safaris are conducted by riverboat twice daily, in the early morning and in the evening. These periods are when the wildlife congregate along the riverbank to feed and spend the night. In the heat of the day, wildlife move inland in search of food thus making them harder to spot. All our safari boats are equipped for our guests safety with life jackets (including Kids sizes), a low-smoke, low-noise 4 stroke outboard engine which is used when the river current is strong, and an electric motor which is invaluable when viewing wildlife due to an almost imperceptible noise which doesn't scare the wildlife away!
All our Sukau Rainforest Lodge tour packages already include a visit to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center and also the Sepilok Sunbear Centre so you don't have to worry. These tours include a tour guide who will help unravel the mysteries of these wildlife and also all entrance fees, but does not include any camera fees that these venues may impose.
Sukau Rainforest Lodge pioneered the night river cruise. Our boats are equipped with wildlife friendly spotlights. Night river cruises are an amazing experience undertaken under the starlit skies in search of sleeping birds and nocturnal animals. This tour is optional and can be done for a surcharge and may not be for everyone, but most of our guests remark how wonderful it really is. We think so too! You may book this tour during your dinner as this tour is dependant on good weather.
You're here in Borneo and you want to maximise your chances of seeing wildlife. Why not come on a speedboat journey with us from Sandakan to Sukau Rainforest Lodge? You'll have two and a half hours more of opportunities each way to see wildlife along the journey and if you're lucky, possibly even spot wild Orang Utans, Bornean Pygmy Elephants and Crocodiles. Don't worry, the boat journey isn't choppy as its mostly on sheltered harbour or upriver and our speedboats are world-class and very safe with long range radio, GPS and full safety equipment.
When our in-house Orang Utan specialist is around, be treated to an interesting and inspiring Ape Talk. Hear stories and wonderful insights about our nearest cousins from someone who has spent a decade studying these gentle human-like beings.
