Day 1: Arrival at Kota Kinabalu

Your own arrival to Dreamtel Hotel. Welcoming meeting at 6pm.

Overnight at Dreamtel Hotel - Superior

Day 2: Island & Night Market

Pickup from Dreamtel Hotel. Proceed to jetty. Transfer to jetty for a 20-minutes boat ride to one of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park islands for a day of relaxation. Spend a day of sun, sea and sand on an offshore coral island. Snorkel in crystal clear water among coral reefs and rainbow-coloured fishes before we return to Kota Kinabalu at 1500 hours.

Continue with a brief sunset tour covering Signal Hill overlooking the city centre, Atkinson Clock Tower and Gaya Island. Visit the night market to bargain for the wide array of local spices, souvenirs, fruits and vegetables. Enjoy dinner at the open market before we return to hotel. Please bring along hat, insect repellent, swimwear and sun block lotion. Mask, snorkel, life jacket and towel are included. Lunch is not included and on guest own account.

Day 3: 3D2N Mt Climbing

After breakfast, drive 2 hours overland to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu at 1500m above sea level. Have a short stop at Pekan Nabalu market to savour local fruits in season. Visit the Kinabalu Natural History Gallery and Mountain Garden in Kinabalu Park Headquarters. If weather permits, take a guided walk on one of the trails in the cool surrounding to explore the montane forest. Temperature at the park is around 14°C - 25°C.

Stay overnight in Kinabalu Park (ROH/Dormitory).

Day 4: Laban Rata

After breakfast, transfer to Timpohon Gate at 6,000 ft (1,828m) to start the 4-6 hours trek with mountain guide to the overnight accommodation (dormitory), with common bathroom and restaurant at Laban Rata at 10,700 ft (3,261m). Do not forget to look around for some of the flowers and pitcher plants along the trail. Temperature is around 5°C - 10°C.

Day 5: Summit and descend - Sabah Tea Resort

Start ascent at 3 am to reach the summit at 13,435 ft (4,095.2m) in time for the sunrise at 6 am. After photography, return to Park HQ for late high tea and at 1430hrs, transfer to Sabah Tea Resort

Please bring along your passport, sun block lotion, personal toiletries, hat, good walking/trekking shoes, windbreaker, warm clothing, towel, torchlight, waterproof gloves, raincoat, water bottle, energy food and personal medical kit including headache tablet and Paracetamol for altitude sickness, lip gloss, insect repellent, extra socks, tissue papers and water proof bag for camera.

Day 6: Sabah Tea overland to Sandakan - Sabah Hotel

After breakfast, make a stop to treat your foot to a delightful but very ticklish fish massage at the Moroli River in Luanti which will almost certainly leave you in giggles. Then, proceed for an overland journey to Labuk Bay Proboscis Sanctuary. We will trek to witness the feeding of the elusive Proboscis Monkeys and silver leaf langurs at the sanctuary. Transfer to Sabah Hotel.

Day 7: Turtle Island (Selingan Island)

After breakfast, transfer to jetty for 1-hour boat ride to Selingan Island. Free at leisure to explore island, swim and snorkel. After dinner, wait for signal from the Park Ranger before proceeding to watch Green Turtle lay eggs on the beach, transplanting of eggs to hatchery and release of baby turtles to the sea.

Day 8: Sandakan - Sukau

Return to Sandakan by boat and proceed to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. We proceed to watch a video show about the plight of the Orang Utans and the rehabilitation efforts ongoing at the Centre. Walk ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden boardwalks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 1000hrs then we continue to the newly completed enclosed nursery area for young orang utans. Thereafter visit the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about conservation of the world's smallest bear.

After lunch, transfer to Sandakan jetty for 2½ hours boat journey to the multi awards winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view birds and wildlife. Take a river cruise using electric motor in search of wildlife and birds. Enjoy candle light dinner overlooking the riverbank followed by slide presentation and interpretation by naturalist guide.

Day 9: Sukau

Take a 0600hrs morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, proceed for an educational tour along the lodge's Hornbill Boardwalk with our in-house naturalist. After lunch, join our in house Orang Utan Talk activity. In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife.

Stay overnight at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge - Superior.

Day 10: Sukau - Sandakan - Transfer out

After breakfast, return to Sandakan by boat journey. After lunch we will proceed to airport for the 1430hrs flight to Kota Kinabalu. For those taking the evening flight, we will have a chance to visit Rainforest Discovery Centre. Take a bird view of the centre from the canopy walk and hanging bridge, explore the botanical garden, home to various species of flora. Proceed to Sandakan Memorial Park for a short visit before taking the flight. End of tour.

Note on Mount Kinabalu climbing

Mountain Guide, who is registered under the jurisdiction of Sabah Parks Authority is compulsory for all mountain climbers. Majority of the mountain guide can only converse in basic English language. Licensed English Speaking Guide for mount climbing is available on request at a surcharge and subject to availability.

It is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting any mountain climb. If you have a history of suffering from the following ailments, it is highly recommended that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, diabetes, palpitation, arthritis, heart disease, severe anemia, peptic ulcers, epileptic fits, obesity (overweight), chronic asthma, muscular cramps, hepatitis (jaundice) or any other disease which may hamper the climber.

Hot water in most lodges in the Kinabalu Park will require some time from the moment the switch is turned on to the time when hot water is available. There is a waiting time of about 30 minutes before hot water is available. Depending on the water usage, there could be a 15-minute interval for subsequent users. While at Laban Rata, hot water is available from 12pm to 3pm only and room heaters run from 8.30pm to 1am only.

Borneo Eco Tours (or our supplier partners) reserves the right to cancel this tour in the event of adverse weather conditions or in any circumstances beyond our control that is deemed unsafe. Guests will not be entitled to a refund should cancellation of this tour occurs. However, where possible, every effort will be made to substitute any cancelled tour with an alternative tour.

Note on Selingan Island

For any camera (phone, digital or still camera) for personal use are chargeable at RM10.00 PER UNIT for conservation permit purposes. Please note that FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO TAKING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Please make sure that you travel light to Selingan Island. (November - February) Please be advised that our trip to Selingan Island involves boat journey via the Sulu Sea. In the event of adverse weather condition during or before the boat journey, the company has the absolute discretion to cancel or postpone the trip if it is deemed that the journey will jeopardize the safety of our passengers. In the event of cancellation, a replacement tour will be offered. The company will not be liable for any compensation.

Note on Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

For any camera with zoom lens from 100 to 400mm, video camera or other video recording equipment for personal use are chargeable at RM10.00 per unit. For any camera (fixed-lens - 400mm and above) or any film-making equipment are chargeable at RM1,000.00 per unit. Mode of payment is cash only.

Note on Sukau Rainforest Lodge

For the comfort and convenience of our guests, it is recommended to travel light by preparing an overnight bag, per person before arriving in Sukau Rainforest Lodge. A complimentary storage is provided for any extra luggage. (For guests departing & returning to Sandakan Only).

Note on Travel Insurance

Customers are encouraged to purchase their own travel insurance before travelling to Borneo. We recommend you to select a travel insurance policy that covers not only your medical expenses (including emergency repatriation) but also personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage. Doing so can prevent major disruptions and additional costs.

Note on Malaysian Tourism Tax Act

In accordance to the Malaysian Tourism Tax Act 2017, with effect from 1st Sep 2017, all foreign tourists/Non Malaysians will be charged a flat rate of RM10 per room per night in any registered tourist accommodation premises and this is collected directly by the hotels/resorts/lodges upon check in. The Tourism Tax (TTx) is mandatory under Malaysian Law. Tourism Tax is not included in all tour packages.
