\"\"I have the pleasure to announce that Borneo Eco Tours on 22 February 2010 became the latest member of Unashamedly Ethical <\/a>, an international organisation dedicated to promoting a commitment to good values, uphold good ethical business practices and clean living.<\/p>\n

Over the last twenty years, in my search for ways to eradicate poverty among the less fortunate members of our community especially in the rural areas, I realised that the poor people in our country are not the problem. Neither is systemic poverty to which they have been subjected to especially when our country is resource rich. It is systemic corruption that breeds systemic poverty. Through systemic corruption, much of our country’s wealth which could have been earmarked for the eradication of poverty was leaked out of the economic system. It is systemic corruption that enriches the privileged few in their position of power at the expense of the many poor.<\/p>\n

At Borneo Eco Tours <\/a>, our core values in our business operations involve the triple bottom line of economic, social and environmental sustainability. This requires a commitment on our part to promote good business practices through good value, uphold good ethical practices and clean living.<\/p>\n

We will commit to follow the ten points below<\/u> :-<\/p>\n

1. To be honest and ethical in all our dealings.
\n2. To provide efficient, economic and effective products and services in
\nan impartial manner.
\n3. To provide all stakeholders with timely, accessible and accurate \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0information.
\n4. To refuse to elicit, accept or pay any bribes, and to report those who do.
\n5. To negotiate all contracts with the utmost integrity.
\n6. To pay taxes, and to pay all creditors on time.
\n7. To pay reasonable salaries and wages.
\n8. To submit ourselves to just and ethical governing authorities.
\n9. To remember the poor by investing generously and sacrificially in the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0broader community.
\n10. To collaborate with our peers to impact our community and nation.<\/p>\n

By submitting ourselves to these ten points, we will become more efficient and more profitable so that we can pay higher salary, pay more taxes, pay our creditors, serve our customers with integrity and still have funds to help the poor and protect the environment. It will not be easy because it demands a commitment from everyone in the company. To transform the community and eradicate systemic poverty, we have to begin by transforming our business practices. We will begin with our own community which is Borneo Eco Tours and the 100 members of the staff in our group.<\/p>\n

If it is good for the poor, it is good for our company, our community and ultimately the country.
