Danum Valley Conservation Reserve covers an area of 43,800 hectares of tropical virgin rainforest, inhabited by an astounding biodiversity of various flora and fauna species one can only imagine. Whilst a large part of that is Class 1 forest reserve, there still exists some which are Class 6 Virgin Rainforest.
The reserve is well known to keen explorers for its megafauna including the endangered Orang Utan, gibbons, monkeys, sunda clouded leopard, Borneon pygmy elephants, Bornean sun bears and many other wildlife wonders. Different wildlife can be spotted during the day as well as during night time, so guests are highly encouraged to explore the rainforest during both times to maximise their wildlife experience.
Other than that, Danum Valley is also a birding playground for avid birders who come from near and far. Some of the endemic species that can be found here are the Bornean Bristlehead, Bornean Ground-Cuckoo, Bulwer's Pheasant, Black-throated Wren-Babbler, Dusky Munia and many more others!
