Awe inspiring and educational trip

We stayed 3 nights at Sukau Rainforest Lodge, a beautiful tranquil setting along the river with a rainforest boardwalk and pool. The food and customer service were outstanding. The local wildlife guides were very knowledgeable and you can be reassured your Tourism dollars help with ecology and environmental projects protecting the animals and rainforest with Borneo Eco Tours. The staff are all genuinely friendly, happy and helpful. Many have worked with the company a long time- a great sign of a great company culture. The access to wildlife is phenomenal. We were so fortunate the week were were there with the wildlife we saw, seeing the Borneo Big 5 and more. I never dreamt I would get so close to Orang-Utans and Pygmy Elephants in the wild. Take binoculars and get ready for sea legs (that feeling of being on a boat when on land- as you will be speed boating up and down the river to see wildlife at different times of day). The accommodation was very comfortable with aircon and fans and aesthetically pleasing interior design- you even get the loan of a traditional sarong to wear to dinner. I had wanted to do this trip for decades and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend this adventure. Loved all of it!

Great service and would recommend to others

Very good service from Borneo Eco Tours throughout and would definitely recommend them to others. I was arranging my own flights from the UK and some time based on the coast in Kota Kinabalu but then looking for a travel company to arrange a tour for myself and family within Borneo. I'd already decided which activities we wanted to do and which lodges we wanted to visit (Borneo Rainforest Lodge and Sukau Rainforest Lodge) and Borneo Eco Tours were very flexible and responsive in sorting out a package (over email) which met my requirements as well as being good value compared to what UK tour operators wanted to charge. Pick-ups and drop-offs were always punctual, rooms and activities at the lodges as described and transfers comfortable. Their coaches/minbuses were equipped with WIFI and water and the larger vehicles had charging facilities. Many of the higher end tour operators seem to use them but as long as you're happy to do some of the basics yourself like booking your own international/internal flights then you can get Borneo Eco Tours great service whilst in Borneo but save yourself quite a bit of cash. Would definitely recommend and use Borneo Eco Tours myself again if visiting Sabah.

Borneo Eco Tours are brilliantly organized and implemented from start to finish.

Borneo Eco tours were just brilliant from our first booking enquiry to dropping us off at the tour conclusion at our BnB in Sepilok. Communication with planners (specifically Eva) was clear and they were happy to accommodate our pick up and drop-off requests. Our tour guide, Ashley, was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. His instructions were clear and we knew exactly what to do and when. We would have liked more time at The Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (to visit the info centre and watch the video) but we knew that time was short so we went back independently whilst staying in Sepilok. Lunch at the Sandakan Hotel was really good - loved the choose-your-own and have-it-cooked stir-fry. The Sukau Lodge was fantastic. We appreciated our comfortable and spacious villa and the food was beyond expectations - there was always a great selection of food and staff were very helpful. The first river cruise, on the afternoon we arrived, was spectacular - who'd have thought we'd come across a group of bachelor probiscus monkeys showing off to the alpha troup. One large male in particular showed off his Olympic diving (belly-flopping) skills (good job he had a fat belly!) as he crossed from one side of the tribulatory river to the other and back. We were impressed, even if the females weren't! Ashley hadn't seen such a performance before so we were very lucky! The ranger talk about orangutans was very interesting and informative. The presentation about Sakau Lodge and its history was interesting, too - great to see so much being done to consider the natural environment - well done Sakau. Morning cruises and afternoon visits (cave) were relaxing, interesting and entertaining. A photographer's paradise! Walking around the Lodge environment was pleasant - thankfuly, we managed to see the 'resident' orangutan just before we left. All in all our 'Orangutan Search' tour was wonderful and we highly recommend Borneo Eco Tours for their excellent service. It was a privilege to participate - thank you to everyone who made our trip so special.

One of the best, safe and most organised tours!

From the beginning when we were researching options for Borneo, to our transfers, guided tours and stay at Sukau Rainforest lodge - we received excellent service. I was initially worried about two things (1) That this trip would be unsuitable for my young children (ages 2, 6, 6) and (2) kidnapping (no joke - the Aust. govt states that Sandakan is a risk!)... Both those concerns were immediately gone when we started the tour. And not once did I feel unsafe (for me nor my family). the Staff @ Borneo Eco Tours go above and beyond to ensure you are safe and have a fantastic experience. The tour guides are passionate about conservation and the wildlife and natural surroundings. I'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to immerse themselves into the jungle, but without roughing it out! :)

You Need to Add Turtle Island to your River Safari!

We did the 3N4D river safari with the Selingan Island (Turtle Island) option. The Selingan experience was better than we expected, and our wonderful guide, Abkaria, gave us great insight into the turtle nesting and breeding process, their life cycle, and inside tips on how to make the most of the nighttime turtle nesting experience. His advice for the next morning also helped us see several more mothers completing the nesting process and returning to the ocean. The River Safari at Sukau Rainforest Lodge was also incredible. There were orangutans, proboscis monkeys, and macaques in the trees around the lodge, allowing for intimate wildlife viewing. While not all the river cruises were amazing, they all offered different experiences, and our last sunset cruise was spectacular, with the aforementioned monkeys again, saltwater crocodiles, numerous hornbills and storks, as well as a near-sighting of a pygmy elephant (we saw the bushes along the river moving, but we never actually saw the elephant). The rooms are great, the villas are predictably even better, and there is more to do at the Lodge than you can possibly do with only a few hours of down time.

An amazing experience with Borneo Eco Tours to Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Borneo Eco Tours provided us with the best possible experience in the Kinabatangan River area. They picked us up from our previous hotel, and at the end of the airport they dropped us off at the airport. The lodge itself was not only very beautiful, but also very well maintained. The staff was kind, helpful and welcoming. Our guide on most of the river cruises, Jimmy, did a fantastic job. He was very knowledgeable and he did a great job explaining everything about the Kinabatangan wildlife. I would definitely recommend going to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge with Borneo Eco Tours!

Amazing Turtle Experience

As part of a larger trip throughout Borneo we wanted to see breedingTurtles on Selingan island. I contacted Borneo Eco tours directly and they were responsive and I felt confident to book with them. The trip was amazing and the guide Johnathan was very knowledgable. Every effort was made for the Turtles well being and to limit any stress to them. The work on the island is amazing, so much so we adopted a Turtle which happen to lay 89 eggs that night!. We watched the eggs being laid and transfeŕred to the hatchery, a safe place away from predators. We also released some newly hat he'd Turtles to the sea.

Outstanding from start to finish

Everything was executed to perfection, from my first contact with the team making the booking to execution of the trip. Everything went ahead as planned without any issues. The coaches were very comfortable and clean, the guides very knowledgeable and the program diverse and interesting. The Sukau Rainforest Lodge was very comfortable, the food was good and the staff outstanding friendly going out of their way trying to get to fulfil every wish. Seen the Borneo 5 was extra special. We loved it and definitely can only recommend it highly. Already planning our next visit to this beautiful country.
