Our adventure begins as we pick you up from the Sandakan Airport or your hotel in Sandakan, then we’ll head straight to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. There, you'll get to learn about the rehabilitation effort done at the centre through a short video screening. Make your way to the feeding platform to witness the feeding of orangutans and other monkeys around. You can also spend time observing the cheeky little younglings in an enclosed nursery area.
After lunch, embark on a 2 hour jounery via overland to Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
Right after checking-in, go on board for a late afternoon cruise in search of Borneo's wildlife and birds. Return to the lodge to savor a scrumptious dinner at Melapi restaurant, followed by a slide presentation and interpretation by a naturalist guide.
Rise and shine for the morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, join in the nature walk along the lodge's Hornbill Boardwalk with the in-house naturalist. It will be free at leisure after lunch. In the afternoon, proceed for another river cruise to check off your wildlife sightings.
Another early morning is in store as we prepare to journey to Lahad Datu. After breakfast, proceed 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu to Danum Valley Studies Centre’s reception office for registration. Transfer to Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA) via 4WD or van for an approximately 2.5 hours drive on a gravel road. Arrival and followed with a welcoming briefing at DVFC Reception & Information Building. After lunch, take an evening guided walk around the vicinity and get to know the rainforest, marvel at its beauty, and experience the pristine ambiance of the rainforest as has been for hundreds of years. Overnight at Danum Valley Field Centre.
Rise early in the morning for a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, embark on a 4-hour trek through the ancient rainforest of Danum Valley before returning to the centre for lunch. Take some time to rest and recharge before preparing for the next activity of the day.
In the afternoon, continue with another trekking session at 3:00 PM, featuring an approximately 2-hour return journey through the rainforest. After dinner, head out for a Night Walk in search of Borneo’s fascinating nocturnal wildlife (weather permitting).
Wake up bright and early for a short morning walk around the vicinity. Return and have a full breakfast. Free at leisure until depart back to Lahad Datu Airport for your departure flight.
