Fantastic Borneo Adventure

Exceeded our expectations. 3day/2night package. It was exceptionally well organised from start to finish. The guides and staff were all friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. The Eco Lodge accommodation was very comfortable and restaurant was good. We saw lots of wildlife including elephants, monkeys, crocodiles and even an orangutan!

Good company, reliable

This is one of the biggest operators in Borneo and we were very happy with the tour they organised for us, to Sukau Lodge on the Kinabatangan river. Transport was all arranged for us, and punctual, and the guides we had spoke good English and we're knowledgeable. We also went to Lankayan island but didn't book through them as booking direct with Lankayan was cheaper and that also worked out fine with pick ups and drop off back to our hotel or airport on the mainland

Stunning trip with an exceptional operator

From first contact with William and the booking team we knew we were in good hands. Great communication helping us plan, competitively priced compared to other operators - and the actual trip was incredible. Transfers were seamless, guides were brilliant, lodges were lovely - we saw orangutans, elephants, Proboscis monkeys, macaques, Crocodiles, hornbills. A trip never to forget, organised for us by an exceptional team.

Borneo Adventure

We have just concluded our 7 day/6 night tour (BB10F - reversed) with Borneo Eco Tours - what an amazing experience from start to finish.
We booked direct and William managed our enquiry right the way through to the finer details whilst on tour. Nothing was too much trouble.
We booked direct so we could go first to Selingan (turtle) island - no UK companies will do this as the FCDO do not recommend travel. It is perfectly safe and you can get travel insurance to cover (High Risk Voyager). Totally worth doing and such an incredible experience.
We then went to the Orangutan Centre, Sun bear rescue centre and Sukau Rainforest Lodge. The guides are brilliant, the villas are wonderful and the food good. Wildlife spotting amazing.
We then went to Kota Kinabola for island hopping and the mountain trip. Again the driver and guides were great. A special shout out to our driver Raydo who picked us up at 3.15am to take us to the airport for our early flight.
Highly recommend Borneo Eco Tours.

Well organised tour company in a slice of paradise

My husband, elderly parents and I took the 3 day, 2 night tour to Sakau Rainforest Lodge. Communication with Borneo Eco Tours was seamless. The whole tour worked like clockwork from pickup at our hotel in Sandakan to our drop off at the end of day three. The accommodation at Sakau was beautiful and all the staff worked tirelessly to make our stay super special. We were so lucky to encounter all the Borneo big 5. Our guide Jumaidi was delightful and went to great lengths to make sure we all got to see all the wildlife we were hoping for. Jumaidi even took my parents on an extra tour to see a herd of elephants as they had been resting when the rest of the group saw them. This was way above what was expected of him but he didn't want them to miss out on such a special encounter. Jumaidi is a huge asset to this well run company. Highly recommended, I would use Borneo Eco Tours again in a heartbeat.

Once-in-a-lifetime family experience – we saw pygmy elephants, orangutans and more

We stayed at Sukau Rainforest Lodge in February 2026 with our family, travelling with our children aged 4 and 2, as part of a 4-day, 3-night stay organised by Borneo Eco Tours, including the Kinabatangan River safari.

We were incredibly lucky to see all of the Borneo Big Five, including pygmy elephants, orangutans and crocodiles. Seeing the pygmy elephants in the wild, from relatively close but always at a respectful distance, was very special. We have added some of our photos to this review. It really felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience and something we will never forget.

We had a very capable guide and an excellent boatman, who was very good at spotting wildlife we would otherwise have missed. All staff, both from Borneo Eco Tours and at the lodge itself, were very friendly and welcoming, and also very attentive to our children.

The lodge itself is beautiful and set right in the middle of the jungle along the Kinabatangan River. Around the lodge there is also an orangutan family, which we encountered during our stay, which was very special to see so close to where we were staying. The two swimming pools are ideal to cool down, especially if you are travelling with children, and were much appreciated in the heat and humidity.

If you go with children, we would recommend including a leisure day to relax a bit more. The journey to Borneo can be long, and the jet lag can still affect the first days. During our first river safari the children fell asleep quite quickly, but fortunately they were awake for the second and third cruises, which turned out to be real highlights.

The food was varied and good throughout the stay, and everything was well organised from start to finish. A nice detail is that the boat used by David Attenborough for one of his Kinabatangan documentaries can also be seen at the lodge.

Finally, the rooms were excellent, comfortable and clean, and everything was very well arranged overall.

We would absolutely recommend Sukau Rainforest Lodge and Borneo Eco Tours, especially for families with young children. Seeing pygmy elephants, orangutans and crocodiles in the wild, and sharing that experience as a family, made this truly unforgettable.

Trip of a Lifetime

I can highly recommend Borneo Eco Tours to organise your trip. We did the Big 5 tour and everything went seamlessly. The only slight hitch was that we were 6 couples and one child and initially 2 couples were booked into one villa at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. However it was remedied fairly quickly. On our tour we only saw 4 of the big 5 as we couldn't spot the Hornbill. However we were thrilled to see a herd if piggy elephants. It was the trip of a lifetime and our 8 year old grandson was enthralled the whole time
