We have just returned from a 10 day trip to Borneo with a personalised itinerary created and managed for us by Borneo Eco Tours. I have been impressed by Borneo Eco Tours' professionalism from my first enquiry email, as Lisa worked with us to build a personalised itinerary that suited our individual preferences, responding quickly to all our requests. Borneo Eco looked after us from the moment we landed in Borneo until the day we left and everyone we met was friendly, helpful and professional. The logistics were all managed very efficiently and communicated clearly. We were always picked up on time, and transport was comfortable and safe. Guides and drivers all went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our trip, including Eddie in KK, Arnold in Sandakan and Sukau, and Saiben in Utan. I would have no hesitation in recommending Borneo Eco Tours as a reliable, professional and friendly eco tour operator.

The guides that facilitated our animal sightings were exceptional, our rooms at both lodges beautiful, and all the staff outstanding! We wrote separate reviews for each lodge and tours, all 5*. Memorable experience and spectacular animal encounters! The bonus Blue Rings Reef was stunning! The tour was seamless from start to finish and everything was so well organized. Kazree was an excellent tour guide. He is so patient and knowledgable and taught us a lot about the wildlife that we saw (we spotted the Borneo 5!). We enjoyed the Sukau lodge, the food, and the daily river tours very much. The scenery was so beautiful especially during sunrise and sunset. Adults and kids all had a wonderful time. Highly recommend this tour!

He is so patient and knowledgable and taught us a lot about the wildlife that we saw (we spotted the Borneo 5!). We enjoyed the Sukau lodge, the food, and the daily river tours very much. The scenery was so beautiful especially during sunrise and sunset. Adults and kids all had a wonderful time. Highly recommend this tour!

We booked a 1-night stay expecting a premium experience. Like most operators in the area (many of which are actually cheaper), we assumed the program would include at least two safaris. Instead, we were told we were only eligible for one late afternoon cruise, which significantly limits wildlife viewing opportunities. During that single outing, we saw very little. The boat stopped for 30 minutes on one monkey which youc an spot in KL to be honest.

Service was also disappointing. Communication lacked clarity from the start, and when we raised questions, the response felt inflexible and at times dismissive—especially challenging as we were traveling with children.

Several operational aspects fell short of expectations:

Transfers were changed from road (with AC) to boat without clear prior communication, which made the journey uncomfortable.
Lunch stops were in mid-range venues with buffet service, where food was poorly managed—arriving later meant limited or leftover options.
Food quality overall was average at best.
Facilities did not match the “luxury” positioning: rooms were quite basic, and the pool was not properly maintained (we found many insects floating in it).

Overall, the experience felt inconsistent with the price paid and the way the lodge is marketed. For a property positioning itself as a premium offering, the value delivered was simply not there.

We just finished an unforgettable 4-day jungle stay at Sukau Rainforest Lodge with Borneo Eco Tours.

It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The lodge is beautiful and perfectly integrated into the rainforest.
Our guide, Jorge, was absolutely phenomenal. His knowledge and ability to spot wildlife are world-class. Thanks to him, we managed to see the "Big 5"!

The absolute highlight happened on our final day. We encountered a huge male orangutan at a distance of only 4-5 meters. We were completely alone with him, and it was such an intense, magical moment that we will never forget.

If you are visiting Borneo, we highly recommend Borneo Eco Tours - simply amazing!
