Great trip into the jungle

Fantastic trip to see so much wildlife. The communication with Borneo Eco tours was excellent and our guide Jed was so knowledgeable and managed to help us see so much. Sukau Rainforest lodge was very memorable the staff helpful, pool refreshing and food enjoyable. They are doing really well in being ecological aware in so many ways.

Borneo Eco Tours are brilliantly organized and implemented from start to finish.

Borneo Eco tours were just brilliant from our first booking enquiry to dropping us off at the tour conclusion at our BnB in Sepilok. Communication with planners (specifically Eva) was clear and they were happy to accommodate our pick up and drop-off requests. Our tour guide, Ashley, was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. His instructions were clear and we knew exactly what to do and when. We would have liked more time at The Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (to visit the info centre and watch the video) but we knew that time was short so we went back independently whilst staying in Sepilok. Lunch at the Sandakan Hotel was really good - loved the choose-your-own and have-it-cooked stir-fry. The Sukau Lodge was fantastic. We appreciated our comfortable and spacious villa and the food was beyond expectations - there was always a great selection of food and staff were very helpful. The first river cruise, on the afternoon we arrived, was spectacular - who'd have thought we'd come across a group of bachelor probiscus monkeys showing off to the alpha troup. One large male in particular showed off his Olympic diving (belly-flopping) skills (good job he had a fat belly!) as he crossed from one side of the tribulatory river to the other and back. We were impressed, even if the females weren't! Ashley hadn't seen such a performance before so we were very lucky! The ranger talk about orangutans was very interesting and informative. The presentation about Sakau Lodge and its history was interesting, too - great to see so much being done to consider the natural environment - well done Sakau. Morning cruises and afternoon visits (cave) were relaxing, interesting and entertaining. A photographer's paradise! Walking around the Lodge environment was pleasant - thankfuly, we managed to see the 'resident' orangutan just before we left. All in all our 'Orangutan Search' tour was wonderful and we highly recommend Borneo Eco Tours for their excellent service. It was a privilege to participate - thank you to everyone who made our trip so special.

One-Of-A-Kind Experience

This was a truly memorable trip. All the unique and interesting animals that we saw - a remarkable experience. The guides were friendly and skilled at their work and opened our eyes to the diversity of the natural world. I think everyone needs to have an adventure like this at least once.

Unforgettable Borneo experiance

Fantastic 6 day/7night tour with BET. We were a group of x10 (mostly over 65's) and had a a wonderful time. We have one night in Sandakan followed by 3 nights in the amazing Sukau Rainforest Lodge (which was exceptional) All of the lodge staff were amazing - special thanks to Melaine, Azliena and Maisarah for all your friendly smiles and assistance with the group. The rooms were beautiful, and the meals were great - we even celebrated a birthday there with the staff arranging a delicious cake and singing!
We were very lucky and saw the Big 5 in the WILD!! thanks to our guide Jimmy and captain Raihan. The rainforest was an unforgettable experience :)
We then went to Sepilok and visited the Orangutan Sanctuary, Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Sandakan Memorial and Rainforest Discovery Centre. It was all so wonderful - and I highly recommend the RDC Nocturnal tour for those who are able.
Thank you to Brandon and the entire team at Borneo Eco Tours. See you all again in 2026.

Fantastic Borneo Experience

What a fantastic, if gruelling, experience experiencing the sights and sounds of Borneo with Borneo Eco Tours (BET).

We spent time in Kota Kinabalu, Sakau Rainforest Lodge and Utan Rainforest Lodge. An itinerary was proposed by BET in advance of the trip which set out the activities to be covered and these were delivered as described. Each of the guides were attentive to our needs, turned up on time and delivered interesting and knowledgeable information relating to the relevant activity. The itinerary was jam packed, which meant that we were regularly up early and undertaking activities throughout the day. If you are looking for a restful and relaxing experience then this tour is not for you, but if you are looking to get the most out of your time in Borneo then this tour certainly delivers. The tour concentrates on the plants and animals of Borneo and we were lucky enough to see a huge range of animals and birds including four of the Borneo big five, Irrawaddy dolphins, ground cuckoos, fireflies, slow loris and a moonrat, to name but a few.

The level of service at the two rainforest lodges was second to none, in particular the Utan Lodge, were for one day we were the only guests.

For a fantastic Borneo experience, then strap in and enjoy the BET managed experience.

Nice, informative family trip to Sakau Rainforest Lodge

We really loved our 2 night 3 day tour to Sakua Rainforest Lodge with Jimmy of Borneo Eco Tours. Jimmy was a great tour guide with tons of experience.

The lodge was delightful with good food, nice rooms and well maintained facilities.

The boat ride to and from Sandakan was really interesting if a bit long. Our family definitely preferred it to riding by car. And it allowed us to see the subtle changes from coastal mangrove forests to the rainforest. Dotted along the way are river villages that are only accessible by boat. Jimmy was knowledgeable about those communities. On our way in we saw endangered Pygmy Elephants on the river bank which was an unexpected treat.

Once we were at the lodge we used a smaller less noisy boat for tours. Each of our 3 river safaris took different routes into tributaries along the Kinabatangan River. We saw more primates on afternoon cruises and more birds in the morning. We did manage to see an orangutan in the wild which was truly incredible but lucky.

The lodge only has wifi in the main building and not in the chalet rooms. My teens were quick to go there during free time. My husband and I preferred the pool.

My only complaint was the booking process. I tried to book for a trip that included Turtle Island. They told me it was it sold out. I was able to book it direct through Crystal Quest for the same date. Jimmy and our other tour mates were there at the same time. We saved money, but I would have paid for the convenience. I think they kept most of your bags so you didn’t lug them for one night.
