Fabulous Borneo Rainforest Tour

The location was just perfect. Down the Kinabatangan River deep in the Borneo Rainforest, where we had gone to spot wildlife. The Borneo Eco Tour staff were amongst the best we have come across. They were knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and so well organised. All the details of the trip, especially the transfers (and there were a few in our itinerary) were seamless.

Recommend!

Excellent tour. Great wildlife viewing and knowledgable guides. Yayah in Sukau and Helen in Borneo Rainforest Lodge were both amazing. Great buffet food and easy transportation as well.

Great experience

We did the 2-night tour. It was a great experience. Well-prepared guides and lodge with excellent conditions. The breakfast is the only thing I suggest to improve.

Wish I had booked a longer tour!,

The entire experience was great, from booking and discussing tour options with Maxwell to saying farewell to Ambrose at the airport in Lahad Datu. This is a well run, professional tour company. The accommodations at Sukau Rainforest Lodge and Borneo Rainforest Lodge were excellent, comfortable beds, clean and air conditioned. Food was varied and delicious especially at Borneo RL. The river tours and guides were outstanding in Sukau. The guides know their stuff and where to find it!! Our guide Helen, at Borneo RL was friendly and knowledgeable, and has sharp eyes, spotted a pair of Orang utans high up in the trees on a gloomy afternoon. Beware the tiger leeches. Make sure your pockets have zippers! The waterfall pool that you can enjoy on the 5 hour hike features fish that like to nibble on you. The rainforest is absolutely incredible and teeming with vibrant life both day and night. Thank you Borneo Eco tours for making a dream come true.

Amazing 8 day tour!

What a fantastic tour we had. Everything was so smoothly organised from start to finish with everything taken care off. We had the most wonderful guides including Felix, Jimmy and Mr. Alonso and driver Eddie (who we really hope passes his guide exam!) They were all so friendly, incredibly knowledgable about the wildlife, enthusiastic and seemed genuinely happy to show us around. The hotels were all great including all their staff members. It was a trip of a lifetime for us and we were made to feel so special. Dietary needs were even taken care of. A special thank you to our guides and drivers. Wish we could do it all again!

Highly recommend Borneo Eco Tour

We chose Borneo Eco Tours and had 8 days of most amazing and unforgettable experiences. Brandon, who helped us with the booking, was patient and answered all of my inquiries. We stayed at 3 lodges and they were all very nice. We upgraded our rooms to premium rooms and at BRL, it's worth the cost to have a river view. We saw a family of otters swimming down the river when we arrived. All inclusive meals were very good and plentiful, especially at the BRL. Highlights of the trip were the activities and the guides. They were stellar! We requested a private guide and we had tailor-made adventures. We did one night river cruise at Sukau and we saw Slow Loris. Of course, we were in nature so no guaranteed of animal sightings but we did manage to see all Borneo big 5. We enjoyed the river cruises to trekking in the middle of the rainforest and listening to thousands of noises in the deep wild forest at night. We had deep sense of gratefulness. Special thanks to Lee for helping us see the last Borneo 5. Everyone, staff & guides, made our experience simply amazing, and we cannot be more thankful to every single one of those who contributed to it. This trip was very special and we’ll cherish and remember every moment.

Highly recommend Borneo Eco Tours, all arrangements worked well Special thank you to our guide, Vincent.

My friend was meant to come on this trip with me but he had to stay in KL as he had dengue. Also the start of the trip was delayed by one day as MAS cancelled all flights due to an erupting volcano. Despite these problems, Brandon at Eco Tour rearranged the schedule so that I did not miss anything and all arrangements worked perfectly. I spent one night in Sepilok Nature Resort (SNR), two nights in Sukau Rainforest Resort (SRR) and three nights in Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL), Danum Valley.
SNR was ok for one night but was very quiet and soulless. The main attractions were the Orang Utan reserve, the Rainforest Discovery Centre and the Sun Bear sanctuary, all of which were great and well organised by our guide, Vincent.
The 2.5 hour boat trip down the Kinabatangan river to SKR gives a great opportunity to see wildlife. Staff at SKR are very welcoming. I was in a Superior room which was very comfortable with good A/C. Food was reasonable and varied and I loved the local coffee. There were two boat trips a day (early morning and late afternoon) which enabled us to relax and see lots of different kinds of monkeys, hornbills, crocodiles. SKR also rune night trips and there is a long walkway which is well worth using. Thank you Vincent for the great photos taken with your long lensed camera.
BRL run their own operation starting at Latad Datu which is 85km away on a mainly jungle road. The resort is quite up market, they even do laundry. Food was excellent and I was in a Jungle Lodge which was good. A guide is assigned to you for the compete stay and will take you out whenever you want. All trips are on foot and can be very exhausting, particularly with the high heat and humidity. Still we did get close to and Orang Utan and Hornbills.

The most Eco friendly tour company in Sabah.

This tour company was so impressive and I had the best honeymoon ever! We got incredibly lucky with wildlife sightings and the weather, which I feel would make a huge difference. From pickup to drop off the guides we’re always aware of our itinerary and kept us informed the entire time. They would brief us in the morning so we always knew what to expect from the day.

Our guide Kazee was so brilliant and his local knowledge impeccable. We did have another guide after two nights who wasn’t as knowledgeable and his English nowhere near as good as Kazees. All the guides we met however were so kind and friendly.

We booked the 3N/4 day tour and I wish we stayed longer!
We went on every boat ride and experience they offered :)
We got the big 5 and saw something different every trip :)

I was impressed when we found elephants and all the tour boats were there that everyone stayed a distance away and was quiet. However at one point the elephant group were on opposite sides of the river and clearly trying to cross but there were about 24 tour boats going up and down. It wasn’t until the elephant entered the water that the boats stopped and parted for them however they were way too close which was sad to me. Our guide seemed concerned but the other companies didn’t so I don’t think the other companies are as educated on wildlife welfare so please do your research!

I also heard that during the night tour they shone torches in all the animals eyes. :(

It is a good thing that tourism increases to Borneo as it increases revenue for Sabah and results in the government investing more in protecting the forests. However the pressure from tourism on the wildlife will need to be monitored.

Other things to note:
Sandakan and the Kinabantang river are Secondary Forests
The Sukau Rainforest Resort has very expensive drinks so take your own.
There is lots and lots of buffet food for breakfast lunch and dinner but no snacks to purchase (not that you will need them)
Go to the orangutan talk
Take two cans of mossie repelant and long loose clothing
Go on the boardwalk tour
DM me on insta for some tips @ecokhay

Borneo Eco Tours

Borneo Ecotours have made our trip in Sabah, Borneo, an absolute pleasure. There scheduled arrangements were always on time, spot on, to our liking, and very enjoyable. The suggested and arranged accommodations were all excellent.
Big thanX to Maxwell and everyone that helped us.
