We really loved our 2 night 3 day tour to Sakua Rainforest Lodge with Jimmy of Borneo Eco Tours. Jimmy was a great tour guide with tons of experience.

The lodge was delightful with good food, nice rooms and well maintained facilities.

The boat ride to and from Sandakan was really interesting if a bit long. Our family definitely preferred it to riding by car. And it allowed us to see the subtle changes from coastal mangrove forests to the rainforest. Dotted along the way are river villages that are only accessible by boat. Jimmy was knowledgeable about those communities. On our way in we saw endangered Pygmy Elephants on the river bank which was an unexpected treat.

Once we were at the lodge we used a smaller less noisy boat for tours. Each of our 3 river safaris took different routes into tributaries along the Kinabatangan River. We saw more primates on afternoon cruises and more birds in the morning. We did manage to see an orangutan in the wild which was truly incredible but lucky.

The lodge only has wifi in the main building and not in the chalet rooms. My teens were quick to go there during free time. My husband and I preferred the pool.

My only complaint was the booking process. I tried to book for a trip that included Turtle Island. They told me it was it sold out. I was able to book it direct through Crystal Quest for the same date. Jimmy and our other tour mates were there at the same time. We saved money, but I would have paid for the convenience. I think they kept most of your bags so you didn’t lug them for one night.

Guides Nat, Jamil and Sam were fantastic.

Guide Nat took us for the boat trip from Sandakan on the way in and we saw rhinocerus hornbill and crocodile on the way in. We then took the 2 pm elephant cruise led by Guide Jamil who found the Borneo Pygmy Elephants at 3 pm and we spend 1.5 hours just with the elephants :)

After that we found and saw the orang Utan and the proboscis monkeys.

Hence , we were glad to have found the big 5 before 6 pm on day 1.

We saw many more animals on the subsequent days including a rare helmeted hornbill. We also saw the babies of 4 of the big 5 - crocodile baby, elephant baby, proboscis baby and orang utan baby.

Guide Sam took us to gomentong caves the next day. It was a great experience and we saw an orang utan mum and baby on a nest :)

We just got back from a 3D2N Kinabatangan Wildlife Safari and WOW!!! It was such an amazing experience. We were lucky enough to see all of the Borneo Big 5. Our guide Vincent was absolutely incredible - so so knowledgeable and friendly. He made the experience for us. The Sukau Rainforest Lodge was next level, the villa was beautiful with a view of the jungle where we saw proboscis monkeys from! The conscious effort of the tour to minimise its impact on the environment is quite special too :)

My wife and I have have just returned from an 8 day tour on the river and to Danum valley with these guys and hands down this was an awesome experience. They were super professional and friendly and the two resorts at Sakau on the river and the nature lodge in Danum Valley were just stunning. Highly recommended

This trip was amazing!!! We stayed at Sukau Rainforest Lodge which was stunning! I made the booking through Borneo Eco Tours and Hanif was our contact and was fantastic. He was very responsive to my enquiries and gave me the greatest confidence that everything would go as planned - and it did! Sukau was a brilliant place to stay for three nights. The food was incredible, the staff brilliant and we saw Pygmy Elephants, Orangutans, Proboscis monkeys , Hornbills and huge crocs! I can’t thank Hanif enough for helping us to have this once in a life time adventure.

When we booked our "Wonders of Sandakan" Tour with Borneo Eco Tours, we had high hopes, but tried to keep our expectations low.
Our trip was absolutely amazing from start to finish, mostly thanks to the amazing crew of BET and their dedication.

The days we spent at Sukau were the absolute best part and I will remember them for the rest of my life. The area around the lodge is truly beautiful and each boat tour was another adventure in this amazing region.
Our guide Jad was an absolute gem and we could have not asked for a better one. He had eagle eyes, a great sense of humor and such a vast knowledge of nature.

The lodge was beautiful as well and we were really sad to leave.

Back in Sandakan we had another great excursion with Lao, who is also extremely knowledgable and funny.

The entire team, the lodge and Borneo itself were absolutely amazing and I can't recommend it enough.
