Orang Utans, Chikita & Gelison
We recently adopted two baby Orang Utans by the name of Gelison and Chikita who are currently residing in the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, Sandakan. Gelison and Chikita are happy and doing well in the centre where they now spend more time in the outdoor nursery building their skills. Chikita was only 1 month old when she arrived at the centre back in 2010. Today, at 6 years old, she’s a confident and feisty one whose climbing skills have greatly improved over the years. Gelison who is also now 6 years old, is kind and sweet-natured and he gets along very well with the younger orang utans. Our hopes for Gelison and Chikita is that their journey at the centre will continue to improve their progress before they’re released back into the wild. We can’t wait to hear more news about their journey in the coming months!

Bintang the Borneon Sun Bear
This year, we have adopted a Sun Bear through the My Bear Adoption Program at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC), Sandakan. Previously named Ronnie by his former owner, this strong female sun bear with a huge appetite is now called Bintang. She was kept with another female sun bear until July 2013, when both bears were rescued from View Top Resort, Tawau and brought to BSBCC. She got the name ‘Bintang’ because of the distinctive patterns on her chest that resembles a star. Read more about who named her here.

Nicky the Bottlenose Dolphin
The latest addition to Borneo Eco Tour’s wildlife family is Nicky the Bottlenose Dolphin, and she has a heartwarming story that could melt any heart. What makes her super special is the fact that she had endured a fatal shark attack in September 2007 and survived it. Although her dorsal fin was badly damaged from the attack, Nicky’s one tough dolphin and she recovered within a couple of months. Nicky’s motherly-nature makes her a great aunt and suitable babysitter to baby dolphins within her maternal group.

Currently with four adopted animals under our wing, Borneo Eco Tours will definitely grow our wildlife family in years to come. We will further our efforts to support wildlife conservation not only in Sabah, Malaysia but also in different parts of the world.
We’ll be keeping you up-to-date about all our adopted animals from time to time so do keep a look out for updates!
