Wonderful Experience

My husband and I were absolutely thrilled with the service we received from this tour company. Our tour guide Jamaidi (I hope I have spelt his name correctly) was fantastic. He is very observant and quick to point out all the animals hiding in the jungle. We had a wonderful experience in sepilok seeing 2 orangutans plus their babies. More than we could have hoped for. The trip to see the proboscis monkeys was a delight. They do like to put on a show. The restaurants chosen were very good and we were never rushed. Our driver was very cautious and very experienced totally in safe hands. We would highly recommend using this company.

Fantastic!

We loved our trip in Borneo. It was a very special and unique experience. The highlights were the visit to the rehabilitation centre and the sitings of the orang utans in the wild - both were incredible.

Wonderful stay at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Truly wonderful 3D, 2N stay on the Kinabatangan river. As one of Nat Geo’s unique lodges of the world, we arrived with high expectations which the lodge and the staff exceeded!

Joy was our guide, totally comfortable driving a boat whilst also spotting amazing wildlife for us and doing it in both English for us and in another language for a Chinese tourist who we shared some of the tours with. We saw crocs, proboscis monkeys, silver langurs, hornbills, kingfishers, stalks, eagles, a distant orangutan and a colugo as well as the more common macaques (though sadly no elephants). In terms of the stay, please excuse the repetition but: Great villa, great food, great service.

Shout out to Vincent’s talk on the orangutans, it was very interesting and insightful. Also the river transfer back was great, and included a visit to Sepilok’s rainforest centre and Sandakan’s war memorial. The lodge employs 80% local staff, they do litter picking on the river occasionally and also they have boats that have both petrol and electric engines - perfect for the quiet glides down the mangroves. If you are looking for a place to spend your money wisely - ie you care about the right kind of ecotourism - then this is the perfect place. Also - would definitely recommend the night cruise. At only 80 ringits pp it’s a bargain and run by a local spotter.

Fabulous!

We had a fantastic trip! We did the overnight at turtle island followed by 2 nights at The lodge. Whatever you do don’t miss the turtles! It really was superb.....the accommodation on turtle island was quite basic but perfectly fine and the turtles were the highlight of the stay. We were lucky enough to see a nest hatch naturally whilst we were lying on the beach.

The boat ride to the forest is a long one. We did the included safaris, none of the extras, but that was plenty. We saw lots of animals including a full herd of elephants crossing the river! 2 nights was plenty, there’s not lots to do between safaris but use it as time to rest. The lodge and the rooms are lovely and the food is plentiful and superb.

Professional operation with competitive pricing

The excellent overall rating for Borneo Eco Tours is well deserved.

They organised a last minute trip for us, incorporating Danum Valley, Kinabatangan River and Sepilok, customised around our inflexible schedule. Very professional interactions with the office (props to Brandon) and seamless operations on the ground. They made a logistically daunting itinerary totally painless for us.

All at a good price. (We got a quote from a well-regarded UK based operator and it was almost double.)

Brilliant Borneo!

I booked a 3-day tour from Sandakan with stay at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge. I could not be happier with the service we received. From the email communication, which was prompt and helpful, to the final drop off at the airport on departure, all the staff were supremely efficient.
Our early morning flight from KK to Sandakan was delayed 2 hrs. Our guide, Marty, explained when he collected us from the airport that we would switch our day 1 and day 3 itineraries, since we had now missed the chance to see the feeding of the orangutans at Sepilok. Not only that, even though I booked an overland trip to Sukau each way, they gave us a free upgrade to the speedboat on the way there.

At the lodge, we were cared for very well and always told where to be and when for the next excursion. Marty was very knowledgeable and passionate about the fauna in Borneo and could answer any question we threw at him. He was as excited as we were to encounter a couple of Pygmy elephants on our last evening river cruise just 10 mins from the lodge. Definitely recommend this company - they are a professional outfit.

Highlight of our Malaysia Trip!

We booked through Borneo Eco Tours after stumbling across their website by accident. After reading the reviews, we made the decision to do a 3 day, 2 night adventure out to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Danella, our tour consultant, organised everything through email and made booking this trip effortless. She provided thorough itineraries and was quick to respond with any enquirers we had.

On the day we arrived to Sandakan airport, we made the mistake of taking ourselves to the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. While the others waited for us at the airport, Danella reached out to check if we were okay. When we informed her we didn’t realise we were being picked up, she reassured us not to worry and that our guide would meet us at the centre!

Shortly after our guide and groups arrival, we were taken in to see the rehabilitated Orang Utans. It was an eye-opening experience and we appreciate the work done to save such precious animals. We also had the chance to visit Sunbears across the road!

After, we made our way overland the Sukau Rainforest Lodge. The 2 hour van ride was super comfortable and our guides were incredibly friendly. We arrived at a jetty as we had to be transported across the river to the final destination. As we arrived by speed boat, we were in awe of the location along the Kinabatangan river, amongst the rainforest! We were greeted by many more wonderful staff, a welcome drink and a cool towel to refresh ourselves. After our briefing, by the sweet Sue, we were taken to our rooms!

We booked a superior room with a large king bed and a spacious seating area where we could read our books looking out to the forest. The room was very clean, comfortable and eco friendly! Food at the restaurant and drinks at the bar were amazing.

We spent majority of our days on the water, cruising the Kinabatangan river by boat. Our guide Stephen was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his animals. Never again will I hear such an accurate replica of a variety of animal calls produced by a human. He was on a mission to find elephants! We cruised with Stephen each afternoon and morning spotting different monkeys, Orang Utans, birds, crocodiles and insects. Finally, the morning we were leaving, we did one last cruise, witnessing about 20 elephants swimming across the river!!! It was the moment we had all been waiting for! We were also upgraded for return trip to Sandakan by boat rather than overland again!

We were staying in Kota Kinabalu for the first few days of our Borneo trip so we booked an extra day with Borneo Eco Tours to be guided around Mt Kinabalu National Park and Poring Hot Springs. Our local guide, Britney, provided extensive, in-depth knowledge about the wildlife, plants and history of Borneo. He was also a bit of a comedian and made us laugh! Unfortunately, the famous Rafflesia at Poring Hot Springs was not in bloom, but Britney made sure we would see some at a private property before our day ended! In fact, we were able to see four!!

I could not recommend Borneo Eco Tours enough!!

Great experience of the Rainforest!

We had a great trip with Borneo Eco Tours. We saw the Borneo big 5 (including watching 3 wild orang utans that are currently nesting near the lodge!) and so many more. I was particularly excited to see 5 pygmy elephants two days in a row! Our guide, Joy, was always very helpful and very informative about the nature around us - she also made sure that we were able to see all the animals and let us borrow her own binoculars.
The food and accommodation was also excellent. The food had great choices for vegetarians for every meal and snack.

Perfect educational environmental trip and tons of fun!

We enjoy educational, conscious travel but not in a heavy handed way, so this was the perfect tour for us. Lots of fun, learned so much about the local wildlife and sustainability programs and met lots of fantastic people (guides and other tourists alike). Stand out moments were seeing a huge green turtle lay eggs by moonlight and seeing other baby turtles hatch and make their way to the sea. Of course, staying at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge on the Kinabatangan river and being so close to the unique animals and birds was a fantastic experience.
