Borneo Ecotourism Solutions & Technologies (BEST) a non-profit division of Borneo Eco Tours Sdn. Bhd organized a half-day seminar on the 12th of April 2008, titled Human Capital Development at Bavanggazo Rungus Longhouse near Kg Tinangol, Kudat.
This seminar is another initiative by Borneo Eco Tours to support the Rungus community in Kudat by building their capacity since it adopted four villages in 2007. The seminar was aimed specifically to address the latent potential of the locals and how they could capitalize own potential for better future. The seminar was coordinated by Mr. Charro Aron Charles, the BEST Secretary and Mr. Baton Bijamin, the BEST Deputy Chairman.
A total of 97 persons comprising heads of villages, local entrepreneurs and the youth from thirteen villages attended the seminar. Among the villages involved are Kampung Hobut, Kampung Terongkongan and Kampung Mompilis. A total of RM 1555.00 was spent for the seminar which included meals cost.
Two dynamic speakers, Mr. Lam Kee Hing shared the success formula on ‘The Secret to Success’ while Mr. Jerri Mulihin shared his experience on ‘Personal Values’. Both topics were focused on the importance of having the right mental attitude.
Participations were encouraged by the seminar and look forward to more people development training seminars. They proposed strategic business programs for local entrepreneurs which would help them in managing their business effectively. A focus group will be identified to champion and act as the catalyst to ensure this capacity building program is sustainable. The proposed subject is to help them develop their personal missions and goals, which will literally precede their action plan.
Since 2007, Borneo Eco Tours has spent RM50,000 on community projects in Kudat including completing a strategic community tourism development plan, completing an abandon church in Terangkongang, thatching Mompilis Longhouse, educational tour for tourism leaders of four Rungus villages involved in the ecotourism program and technical advice and skill training seminar.
Borneo Ecotourism Solutions & Technologies (BEST) is a non profit division of Borneo Eco Tours. It was officially registered under the Societies Act 1966 by the Registration of Societies Department on the 18th of April 2007. It has the credential to run non-profit activities for the community and environment. The projects are presently funded internally by Borneo Eco Tours and Sukau Rainforest Lodge amounting approximately RM50,000.00 annually.
