Driving two hours overland from Kota Kinabalu to Kinabalu Park, they arrive at the village Kg. Kiau Nuluh at the foothills of Mt Kinabalu. After gearing up, the undulating trek took us past rubber plantation, pineapples farm, sweet potation, tapioca to the crest of the hill overlooking the spectacula view of Mt Kinabalu. Then it was to the foretsed jungle and mountain streams befire we finally arrive at Miki Survival Camp, located near a stream.

The facilities consist of a common area with kitchen and fireplace in the centre and two adjoining shelter raised wooden platform for overnight stay and separate toilet and shower area. Another shelter house the guide quarter and kitchen. Activities consist of night walk in the surrounding forest and bathing in the nearby river, collecting jungle ferns, learning how to make mats for roofing and bamboo cups. Visitors have a chance to savour native jungle food cooked in bamboo.

For anyone wishing for a simple but authentic experience of living in the jungle in Borneo, this will be a great introduction for jungle survival and a taste of what it used to be like for the locals wo live in the jungle of Borneo. The trek is fairly easy with beautiful scenery along the way and just over an hour. Visitors are advised to wear leech socks to prevent leech bites before they start trekking.
